Get official recognition for your actions
The
Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the only scheme in the UK that has been validated by VisitEngland.
GTBS is the leading eco-label for tourism businesses, with over 2,000 accredited businesses - including accommodation providers, attractions and activity providers. Being accredited will help you prove to potential customers that you are reducing your environmental impact. They also offer advice and support.
The business benefits of GTBS
- Expert environmental assessment - your assessor will provide detailed and practical advice for your business on how to improve your environmental performance.
- Substantial cost savings – in energy, water and waste bills. A survey of GTBS members in 2009 found that 79% of respondents had achieved some level of cost savings as a result of introducing measures after joining the scheme. On average, businesses save 20-30% of energy consumption (source: Green Business)
- Appeal to a growing market - Research for Eurostar in 2009 found that 4/10 respondents said environmental issues had an impact on decisions when making recent purchases or choices concerning holiday travel. These issues are increasingly important to corporate clients as well. The award provides consumers with an independent benchmark of your green credentials.
- A competitive advantage - with lower operating costs than your competitors, you will protect the future profitability of your business.
- Online support - including newsletters, discount offers and a members’ area with technical information on energy efficiency, waste minimisation and water conservation.
- Information bank - members have access to case studies, examples of wording for environmental policies, customer questionnaires, staff awareness programmes and community projects.
- Staff involvement - businesses in the scheme report a real staff enthusiasm and commitment. The 2009 survey of GTBS members found that half said their membership resulted in increased motivation of staff and/or the owners.
- An award to be proud of - members have an external wall mountable plaque plus a certificate for display and can use the award in all their marketing.
- A greener and better destination for your visitors - your achievements will help to make Yorkshire a more sustainable place.
- Promotion for members - Members will be promoted on Yorkshire.com and www.green-business.co.uk websites.
