Calendar Girls Bloom at Launch of Yorkshire Gardens Campaign
Story published: Friday, 28 May 2010

Welcome to Yorkshire, the official tourism agency for the region, invited the WI members turned celebrities to launch ‘Yorkshire Gardens’ in the apt setting of RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
In a first for Yorkshire, a food themed garden took pride of place at the Chelsea Flower Show. The Calendar Girls were joined by crowds of people in the Silver Medal award winning “Welcome to Yorkshire’s Rhubarb Crumble and Custard Garden” to launch the exciting new project.
Gary Verity, chief executive for Welcome to Yorkshire, says:
“It has been a fantastic week at Chelsea. This is a first for our region and we are delighted to have our ambassadors, The Calendar Girls with us to help place Yorkshire’s gardens centre stage.
“The Yorkshire Gardens campaign highlights many of the beautiful gardens throughout Yorkshire which people can visit. Whether our visitors want grand sweeping stately home landscapes or they simply want to explore the smaller secret gardens, we have lots of traditional and contemporary gardens to discover.”
The Welcome to Yorkshire Gardens project will enable visitors to discover every type of garden, including woodland walks, vibrant parterres and wildflower meadows.
More than sixty gardens throughout Yorkshire are involved in the new project.
All of the stunning gardens in Yorkshire offer not only a magnificent selection of plants but a wide range of events to make a visit to the region as enjoyable as possible.
More information can be found on www.yorkshire.com/gardens and people can order a free Yorkshire Gardens guide.
